Champ, previously known as Angus, was rescued as a puppy and taken in by Irwins animal shelter. He has always been scared of people and never learnt to trust despite people’s best efforts. He is now 7 years old and has lived in a shelter all his life. Irwins recently closed down and Angus was moved to a foster home where he is being rehabilitated. For his new start in life he also got a new name “Champ” short for Champion which he has proved himself to be.
Champ was completely shut down and terrified when he arrived at his foster home after being taken from his comfort zone (the shelter). He would freeze when touched and not make eye contact. It took a lot of time and patience but he has since learnt to trust a few people who he has become familiar with. He now comes up to people he knows for love and attention. He loves other dogs and walks well on leash. He also loves playing with squeaky toys and running after the ball.
Champ would love a home with another confident dog who is not nervous like him. He needs a good “role model” to show him that people are good and life is happy and fun. He would also do well in a multi dog family. We would prefer a quiet home for him with no children or loud teenagers. He is not good with cats.
Champ is a magnificent dog who would make an excellent addition to a family/individual who is willing to be gentle and patient with him. Whoever adopted him will be guided by a Behaviourist on how to integrate him into their home. If you are interested in adopting this Champion please email lauraw.pets@gmail.com
